English
found a scrap of paper. I'm guessing I wrote it at some point of July 2011, so that's what I'm dating it as. seems like it was never finished. typing it up so I can toss it:
It's funny, but the only thing that's ever made sense to me has been English. Growing up, I always thought I'd be a writer, maybe on the side, but I knew English would be relevant to my life. Even in senior year of high school, before college, I thought I would major in lit, or English or something. Somewhere in the past four years, that concept has gotten lost. But the reason I think it's funny is because, even though I didn't become a lit major, four years later I find myself having traveled in a circle and coming back to English. At some point, I'm sure I fathomed teaching English-- only, I always saw it as a role of a high school teacher to native speakers, not as a person teaching EFL kids. In fact, though, that may just end up being the road I travel on. I can see myself being a copy editor, or writing, or teaching, but it's all related to English, no matter what I do. I wonder if I should go back to school and get something close to an English degree.
It's not exactly what I had in mind, but I'm actually just really surprised to realize that I've been doing something on the side related to the only thing I've ever felt like I understood.
