I love love love doing Relay for Life. Newark, Campbell, and we're thinking of going to Logan in August. I somehow managed to miss the lighting the past two times.
So it wasn't Camp Campbell; it was just Campbell. The community center. I liked going to both. Our location in Campbell was much better; right next to the important places, so we weren't going back and forth across the entire field like we did at Newark. Also, there was no need to go to the Port-a-potties, as the bathrooms were available at all times. Oh, I do love those flushing toilets. The track was smaller and there was only one set of bleachers, and we didn't do the lap where everybody walks around with a candle, but Karen, Tiff, and KevHuynh got them anyway and we got to do a lap. We didn't play mah-jong, but there was a gym area that was pretty fun. They were both different, but I liked them in different ways. Campbell was peaceful, and I think the atmosphere was a little more fun. Then again, nobody got yelled at in the morning this time. I felt anger, sorrow, amongst other emotions that held less strength at Newark. I signed the banner. In a way, Campbell was more welcoming than Newark. The teenagers were equally friendly both times, but I feel like the adults were more open at Campbell.
I did more walking at Campbell than at Newark. At least two hours worth. I also did more napping. They had these genius coffee machines that were brilliantly designed. I didn't successfully fall asleep at Newark, but at Campbell, after tiring myself out by walking I napped once Saturday evening (during the lighting, though there wasn't a ceremony so I suppose I didn't miss anything during my two hours, except that it went from light to dark and the candles were lit), and once more Sunday morning after two hours of walking. Saturday I slept in the tent, and we later decided to sleep out in the open area, on a tarp. I think that was more fun, though incredibly wet because of the morning dew. I spent about an hour asking Silent Stephen questions, and surprised myself with the number of questions I could come up with. Then we walked and walked, and I slept, and the stars that had been there when I closed my eyes were gone when I opened them. There were more people at Newark, obviously, but we still found things to do at Campbell. Instead of mah-jong we told fortunes. I liked that they didn't turn the lights back on at Campbell; it was nice to just have the pathway lit up by the Luminaria bags. At Campbell, we cheered on the Survivor lap at the beginning, whereas we did little at Newark.
