winter break 2006
12/20: Jerry took me to run errands. He had lunch with Gordon, Daniel, and Michael at the Shanghai place that used to be Frothy Tea. I made a few calls while I waited. We went to Union Landing (Michael's, Borders, and Office Max), Lido Faire, the mall, Lion's, and then to the shelter to volunteer, but we were a little early so we went to Verde, but we left without getting anything because I was freezing from having been outside and he made me go to the car because it was warmer. Then we went to the shelter. He was good with the kids. Then home.
12/21: Emma, Jerry and I went to Charles's and we played Emma's Friends Trivia Game. Jen Lu picked me up and we went to go see Eragon with Jalene and Gary. Then I drove us to the mall and after a while we met up with Aaron and his friend Kenny. Quickly's with Jen, Jalene, Aaron and Gary.
12/22: My mom took me shopping for the party. We bought a bunch of chips and soda. Then we went grocery shopping.
12/23: I made PB & J's for a few people. The Little Mermaid. People played games on Jen Lu's PS2. Charles brought his mah-jong table. Some kids played Monopoly. Fudds at 6. Came home and watched Mulan and House of Flying Daggers. Barbara, Wilson, Moriaki, Anna, Ephie, Tiff, Charles, Nandita, Rahul, Rashelle, Vince, Linda, Jenn Lu, Sylvia, Katy, Jacky, Ziming, Tuan, Minh, Danita, Adri, Daniel, Jesse, Dexter, Jenn Wong, Emma, Huy, Kevhuynh, Lisa, Tiana, Karen, James K, Jason, Aaron, Gary, Kevin Chiu.
12/24: I delivered presents to Charles, Emma, Nandita, Justin, and Jenn Wong. Came home and watched Step Up with my sister. Then I wanted to watch Snatch but she wanted to watch Love Actually. We had a hot pot with my dad's friend. He bought a lobster, which I had played with a little before it was cooked so I didn't eat it. I think I don't really like seafood. I'm indifferent to it. We opened presents. Then I was up till five working on pointless stuff and I went to sleep.
12/25: I could hear my sisters and my mom making plans for tomorrow, but I kept trying to sleep and then my sister woke me up and said, "Caroline, you're mumbling in your sleep." Later on I asked her what I said, because I thought I'd been sleep talking, but apparently I really was mumbling "Gnhhh." I finally watched Snatch with my sister's friend. Ate dinner with family and some relatives.
12/26: Went to Gilroy outlets with my mom and sisters. I got a pair of pants from Gap and some shirts from Levi's and Guess. Came home and went to Tiff's and played Charades.
12/27: Gary, Aaron and I went to go see The Pursuit of Happyness. Then I deposited the UNICEF money at the Albertsons Coinstar. We couldn't get the bills in so we drove to the next Albertson's, but I still couldn't get them in and this lady exchanged them for coins and we donated that. Then I went home. Danny picked me up at 6:30 and I met his friend Jason and Jason's friend Ivan, and then we went with Quincy to a hot pot restaurant on Mowry and ate dinner. I drove us to Baskin Robbins because Danny suddenly got a random craving for ice cream cake, and then we went to his house to play mj and it turned out to be my birthday cake! Hehe it said "Happy late birthday" on it and he lit a single candle. We played till around 11 and I wanted to go home so I took Ivan and Jason to the BART station and dropped myself off and gave the car back to Danny. I watched Van Wilder with my sister and then fell asleep to it. Partially gross but cute movie. He is quite the charmer.
12/28: I was initially planning to spend my day at home. I woke up late and got some JCA stuff done. Linda randomly calls me to see what I'm doing because she and Charles are bored and I'm thinking okay, we can chill for a bit, so they come over and I find out that we are meeting Dan at Kets Kaffe. Charles says I look disheveled. Linda says I just look like I've been in my pjs all day, which I have. I don't feel like changing but it's windy so I throw on a second layer of pj bottoms and we go for coffee. It had better be some damn good coffee, I say. We arrive and it is decent coffee but not exceptional, I think. We are going to play mj at Charles's house but then we can't because he has stuff to do, so he drops Linda and me off at our respective homes and I do random errands and then I can't sleep. It is nearing 3 AM and I cannot sleep and now I reconsider the strength of the coffee and decide to promote it to Quite Strong.
12/29: I fell asleep around 6 AM, slept till 12 ish. Minh called to see what I was doing because he was in Fremont and wanted to kill time waiting for Zobair, so he came over to hang out and I got most of Tiffany's present done while we watched TV. I showed him my new chair and pretty much continued with my errands and then he left. Quincy picked me up around 4 and took me to the AHS parking lot to drive a bit. He had picked me up an hour earlier than he thought he did so when I started burning his clutch we went to Tea Station, ate a bit, and then went to Tiana's and sat in the car waiting for about an hour. She got home around 7 and after Ricardo arrived we played mj until a little past 12, went to her room and then Quincy dropped me off.
12/30: At three I had a JCA meeting. Eight out of ten officers made it. Was pretty chill. Ended around 4:30 ish. Worked on Jerry's present. Lisa asked if I wanted to watch The Devil Wears Prada at ten. At first my mom wouldn't let me go, but how could she say no to this angelic face? ;] Moriaki picked me up to go to Lisa's house, where Jason already was. We sang Karaoke Revolution while we waited for Alex, and then played Tekken after the movie. Rawr! I appreciate Soul Caliber so much more now. They have such pretty effects, especially with the swords. Swish. As I came home I realized that whenever I come home late, I pretty much only need to say, "It's the house with the lights on." Also, my jokes are far better when I am in a good mood.
12/31: I hadn't slept until 4 AM, so when Gary called and woke me up around 1:30 I was super grouchy because I could have slept more, but failed to do so, and I couldn't fall asleep again. I worked on presents, and around 7 came Charles, Emma, Michele, Jerry, Ziming, Jenn, and Karen. Charles left early but everyone else stayed overnight. Michele watched The Wedding Planner while we played mj and poker, and then we watched Ever After, which ended around 11:40, so we ate and stuff and counted down. We watched a minute or so of Hannah Montana but since I'd already seen the episode I decided not to suffer them by ending the new year.
1/1: I got my traditional call from Squirt wishing me a happy new year, and then a little after 12 we began watching Season Two of Grey's Anatomy, which continued for the next thirteen hours or so. I couldn't fall asleep until 11 AM, by which time the only two people remaining were Ziming and Michele. Ziming woke me up around 12:45 when I could have slept for another good half hour, but of course I had also missed almost two hours worth of Grey's. Ah well. I got up and started folding up the blankets, and then at 2 Ziming drove us to Barbara's. We toured her house, and I don't know what I was expecting, but I started to cry. I've seen big houses, but I think I became upset because I was so overwhelmed by the thought of how ridiculously unbalanced the whole world is. I felt like it was unbelievably unfair that there could be such an enormous gap. I guess I also felt cheated, probably because of the stress of trying to imagine if I could really save enough to afford a summer in China, and then I compared what I could see to how little other people had. It's not her fault. I never would have thought I would cry, though. Kevin and Daniel arrived. We played Michele's art-sentence game, which cracked us up, while Mr. & Mrs. Smith played in the background, and then we played Sequence and watched American Wedding and Ziming fell asleep while I tried several times to sleep but failed. We met Bio at Ohana's for dinner and my wife paid for me. Then we tried to see what else there was to do because we didn't want to go home, and after a while we went to Michele's to just kind of sit and talk. I put Jerry on speaker and we worked to figure out our plans for our stops in Asia. Barbara left, then Bianca and Ziming, leaving Kevin, Daniel, Michele and me. Kevin was on the phone pretty much the whole time, so Daniel, Michele and I were talking. Those are my favorite hang out moments. Screw going out for dinner or lunch; I like to just sit with my friends and just listen to them talk. I love when Michele visits; she always makes everything better, and life is just a little easier to get through. I'm so grateful to have met her. Kevin left, which I suppose was no major difference because he wasn't really talking to us, anyway. My parents called and I told them I was coming home, but then we kept talking, and I really wouldn't have minded just staying there with them for hours, which I guess we did. In a rare opportunity, I got to know the real Daniel better. We finally left around 12:45 AM. It was a great way to start off 2007.
1/2: Danny wanted me to go out for lunch, but I knew I'd be asleep. I woke up around 9, around 1, and then really woke up and it was nearly 4:30 PM. So there goes my day. I'm tired but the cause of exhaustion leading to this spell was well worth it. Aaron called and I felt kind of bad cause I think he wanted to hang out but I needed to read supreme court cases. So I read till 6 AM and finally went to sleep.
1/3: I skipped out on dim sum, but after they ate, Michele, Daniel, Jason and Kevin Chiu came over and we watched more of Grey's Anatomy. Jason left and we were about one episode away from finishing the season, I think, and then Kevin left and I finally switched to Rush Hour. Daniel and Michele left and Emma picked me up around 6 with James and we went to the shelter. I was mobbed. Brutally, viciously attacked, abused, by both Christian and Shaqua. Jeremiah got chocolate and he was a messy devil. James gave me Mad Cow and a red man. Yes, I am aware of how odd that sounds.
So, back to school tomorrow. I am so far away from ready.
