but this
this is the now,
and this is what matters now.
hurricane season.
i hadn't really thought about it before today, but--i am, to say the least, impressed by the aid being sent to the U.S. from so many different countries. rarely do we ever see our own country so devastated by the state of natural disaster. it has always been the U.S. working to send aid elsewhere--japan, china, sri lanka. help the victims of the tsunami. earthquakes. well, except for the sudan genocide, cough. but even rwanda, there was a small bit of involvement from the U.N. peacekeepers. and for some reason, i think i had this idea that the U.S. could hold its own--that, though this country would be very grateful to other countries offering their support and aid..if they did not help us, we could still make it.
i'm not really sure what my point is. i think i'm just kind of used to seeing the U.S. always sending aid out, and the fact that new orleans needs help, i guess i assumed that the states would pull together to send aid in. but then, i don't really know anything about the history of U.S. natural disasters and whether or not a third-world country has ever decided to help out with florida or sf or wherever else we needed help.
but anyhow, it's..comforting, somehow, to...see this..and know it.
