PERSEID

Despite a few upsets in our original arrangements, a series of change in plans, potential disaster, and a small ounce of drama, it was, overall, very fun. All thanks to Bianca Yeung.

In detail: well, it was quite an adventure. I arrived at the school a bit early so we could set up the tent before sundown. Lo and behold, the gate was locked. It stumped me, since Bio and I had just been there two nights before at 10 PM and I had been as free as a bird to walk in there and do as I please. There was also a golfer in there, whacking away with his clubs without a care in the world. How did he get in? He jumped the fence. Hooray. Well, jumping the fence was not a difficult task, but it would most certainly mean trespassing. Bio arrived with Tiffany, then Chen, then Jerry, then Ricardo, then Jen Lu. We debated having everybody who arrived...jump. We also considered the parking lot and a few other spaces at the school. Ultimately, I decided that I did not want to deal with any parents asking me "why the fuck did you invite my kid to come jump a fence and spend the night at a school with a locked gate?" So we decided to put the tent up, outside of the fence.

Not too long after that, when mostly everyone had arrived, we decided that we were feeling highly uncomfortable with out location, so we moved over to a small park one block over. Then the sprinklers came on, which wasn't really a big problem, but we began to be uncomfortable with the location there, as well, so we picked up the tent and carried the damn thing over to Bio's driveway. =) It was fun.

At one point after that, when I was walking toward the house with about three other girls, two cops drove by and asked if we had just been at the park. "Uhhh..." But it was alright; they just wanted to kick us off because they had received a call. This, of course, made me grateful that we had moved our tent, which we barely ended up using, but, nonetheless... I watched the car leave, praying it would pass by the park without noticing the smaller tent. It did. Relief.

And, well, the night passed, as did the morning. People arrived. In total there were 35 people who showed up, though not all at the same time. Some left early, some arrived late, quite a few did not bother showing up at all, and then there were a few surprise guests who appeared out of thin air. 22 people stayed overnight, not including Bio's parents. About seven of them actually slept at all.

We did see some meteors. Some of us saw more than the others, depending on where we stayed and how long we stayed there, and how much attention we paid to the beautiful night sky. I glimpsed five of them. Jen Lu spotted 25. We mostly scattered around the driveway, the park that we would have been kicked off of, and, well, indoors, for those who didn't really care about the shower. There were some cloudy periods in the sky, and I don't know if anybody really stayed out for all of the hours that we were supposed to have been able to see them. I stayed at the park for most of the time that I was outside. It was nice. We began to trek back inside, though, and spent the next something hours just being everywhere, mostly indoors.

-Mah-jong. It's only my second time playing, but I loved the game. I'm not very good at it, but it is extremely addicting.
-Foooooosball.
-Ice cream. Face. Mine.
-Too much fog to see the sun rise.
-Fire of love? Out by the tent. Or lust, or something.
-A bit of truth/dare.
-Meteors.
-Bianca. Tiffany. Chen. Jerry Lee. Ricardo. Jen Lu. Ziming. Angeline. Ephie. Tina. Anthony. Their three cousins. Dan. Kevin Z. Ben. Sevey. Jessica. Joanne. Genny with a G. Matthew. Alan. Tiana. Cassandra. Alex. Andy. James. Loren. Monica. Nandita. Jason. Jen Yee. Michele. And Adri on the phone.
-more mah-jong. I finally won a game this morning, around 11 AM. Imagine my excitement. I didn't realize I won until Ziming pointed it out. Michele has a pic of my first win. Whee.

Michele and I were the last ones to leave today, at about 1:30 PM. I haven't slept since I woke up at 9 AM yesterday. Afterward, I helped my mom do an errand, and then went to Linda's, where we gorged on food, sang karaoke, played video games, and I kicked Kevin's ass in Frustration. He kicked mine back in Egyptian War, though. I would get a lead and then I would lose it all.
